Hot Dogs and Victorian Queens

Hasn’t it been hot this week! I’ve had the week off work and although my original plan was to take a trip to Scotland, I decided taking a dog for an 8 hour road trip in 38 degrees might not be the best plan I’ve ever had! So we stayed at home and had some trips out for the day instead. We managed to sneak a walk in the park early morning before the masses arrived with their picnic boxes and footballs, but by mid morning it was super hot and unbearable if you are a small black dog!

Still haven’t really planned an endurance walk yet but I have signed up for a virtual one. Virtual runs/walks are great, you sign up to a website, you do the miles they ask, you send your proof to them and they send you a medal. Its not as good as a real organised walk, but you can’t always get to those, so a virtual walk helps keep you motivated until the next one comes along. Sure you can cheat, but you really are only cheating yourself so whats the point. I mean you can join a gym, not go, and tell everyone you belong to a gym, but at the end of the day who is losing out? Not the gym that’s for sure. Anyway, virtual walks. I love them. My latest one is quite unusual, as the website has a tracking app that goes with it. I am walking the length of Hadrians Wall, 90 miles in total. My Garmin is linked to Strava, and then Strava automatically uploads to the virtual walk website, and it shows how far I have come on a little map. Sure its all a gimmick, but who doesn’t love a gimmick? It’s certainly kept me walking this week and I’m even ahead of my plan, so all is good. If you are interested in what I’m talking about you can head over to www.myvirtualmission.com and see what they have that works for you. Plus you get a shiny medal when you finish, I’ll keep you all informed on how it goes.

You spend a day at comic con and bump into Queen Victoria

So after a week in blazing temperatures and a couple of day trips and some networking, I spent Saturday at comic con in London’s Olympia. I love this one, even if it is packed and really difficult to get to involving early mornings and three trains but when you get there you see allsorts. I left home at 5.45 on a Saturday morning, I mean who even knew that time existed, I was expecting it to still be dark, but apparently the sun comes up even earlier!

So busy even at 9am

I got to Olympia around 7.30am, and spent an hour and a half in the queue until they let us in at 9.00am. I met a lovely lady in the queue who was a huge fan of John Barrowman, and had a nice chat while we waited. She even gave me information about some other events that I’m going to try to get to. Amazing who you meet standing in a warehouse first thing in the morning. Never be afraid to strike up a conversation with people, sometimes they can be quite nice. As you can see, ten minutes after getting through the door, its already quite busy. By lunchtime I could hardly move.

Comic con isnt just about comics though, as I found a whole Lego section with models designed by lots of people. Some of them were really incredible. And you thought Lego was just for kids!

Of course I didn’t get up that early just to look at a bunch of Lego and some comic books. Another obsession of mine is Dr. Who. I’ve been a fan since I was old enough to watch TV. Yes, yes I’m old enough to have watched it in black and white. Anyway, despite my great age, I’m still a massive kid at times, and I spent money, time and effort to get to London early enough to meet Jenna Coleman, who was not only my favorite Dr. Who companion, is also Queen Victoria. So at the end of a week of sunshine, I got to meet a tele star!

That’s your lot for now, but I have something else in my pipeline (might need to get that checked!) , so watch this space and see why I now have two computer screens and a new webcam.

Until next time…

S:)
